So with all the buzz about the impending apocalypse that didn’t happen, I, along with I’m sure many others, took advantage of the end of days to do some fun stuff, instead of things I actually needed to do. I spent a couple of days catching up on some sleep and did a lot of reading. Three of the books were by mainstream authors. But three of the books were by Indie authors and I hit pay dirt because I loved all three.
One of those authors mentioned in a blog post a promo he had done that had yet to bear fruit. People had taken the books, and perhaps read them, but they hadn’t commented or reviewed the book. It reminded me that I have been very remiss in that area myself. I’ve read quite a few books by Indie authors this year and even when I really loved the book, I didn’t take the time to actually write any reviews. So today, since the apocalypse didn’t absolve me of any of my sins, I figured fixing my big fail in the reviewing department was one I should make a start one.
To my dismay, when I signed onto my Amazon account, I found a little under 200 items awaiting my attention. Wow. So I plunged in. Twenty seven reviews later I haven’t even made a dent, except in my guilt over not doing it sooner.
I recently did a free promo myself, and like every other author, I check often to see what’s happening with my books. A few purchases here, a review or two there, but mostly, not a lot of action. Looking at my own behavior, that doesn’t mean much. After all, I loved a lot of the books I read. Still, it didn’t motivate me to do anything to let the world at large know about it.
So I’m turning over a new leaf. I resolve to do better this coming year. I’m going to try to write the review right after I read the book, instead of putting it off.
So for all the other authors who are waiting for my review, take heart. I have to go back to my Kindle and take a second look before I sign into Amazon and leave my comments. The benefit there, is that I’ll probably also wind up buying the next book in the series on the ones I liked. So that’s my little benefit package to you for your patience, courtesy of the apocalypse that didn’t happen.
